Chatham Students and Newspaper Recognized by The Press Club of Western PA

The Press Club of Western Pennsylvania held its 60th annual Golden Quill Awards at Rivers Casino on May 28, 2024. The awards recognize professional and student excellence in written, photographic, design, broadcast, audio, video, and digital journalism in Western Pennsylvania and nearby Ohio and West Virginia counties.

Chatham’s student newspaper, The Communiqué, won the Golden Quill Award in the News-Audio Journalism, Student Division category for its occasional podcast series, The Dart. Several students contributed to this podcast; however, the recognized episode was led by former editor-in-chief Alice Crow ‘23.

The Press Club also recognized English major Madison Stokes ‘26 as the 2024 Bob Fryer Memorial Scholarship winner and Communication: Journalism major Abigail Hakas ‘25 as the 2024 Press Club of Western Pennsylvania Scholarship winner. The students accepted their scholarship awards during the ceremony, and each gave a speech before a ballroom filled with media professionals from across the region. This is the first time the Press Club has awarded their scholarship to a Chatham student.
