Monday, January 6 — Friday, January 31 // Jennie King Mellon Library, First Floor
Throughout January, JKM Library’s curated display will honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the larger work done by the Civil Rights Movement. The display will also feature items about present day activism. Pick up a book about Black Lives Matter or the effects of Twitter on community-based action. Be reminded of the sacrifice and struggle of yesterday as we face hardships today.
MLK Commemoration Diversity Dialogue: Holding Space on the Page—Healing through the Arts

Join creative writers for a session of supported community writing. In commemoration of MLK, we will explore the power behind writing and complicating narratives. We invite you to reflect, hold space and write. Writing prompts will encourage you to ask questions and make both personal and creative connections. You are also welcome to simply read, reflect, and rest. This is a quiet space. No writing experience needed. All supplies provided. Light refreshments served.
CHUTZ-POW! The Art of Resistance Opening & Volume IV Comic Book Launch

Join Multicultural Affairs, the Women’s Institute, and the Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh to celebrate the launch of Chatham’s CHUTZ-POW! Exhibit and CHUTZ-POW! Volume IV, an acclaimed comic book series that tells the story Holocaust survivors and resistance fighters who brought light into some of the darkest recesses of World War II. Integrative Raja Yoga: The Practice of Restorative Personal and Collective Power

Felicia Savage Friedman, founder of Yoga Roots on Location, will highlight Raja Yoga’s 8-limbed path, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Restorative Justice history. This event includes an eye-gazing activity and personal Call to Action Restorative Justice commitment practice; all integrated with in-body breath awareness, yoga-based movements and body scans, and ends with universal meditation.
MLK Day of Service
Monday, January 20 // Meet @ Carriage House // 8:30 am
Join us as we spend the morning completing service projects in honor of the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. Volunteers will serve with the non-profit program Free Minds and the Wilkinsburg Borough. Breakfast and transportation will be provided and all participants will receive a long-sleeved shirt.
