Chatham’s Women’s Business Center, hosted by The Center for Women’s Entrepreneurship at Chatham University, was selected by the U.S. Small Business Administration as the 2018 Women’s Business Center of the Year.

Chatham faculty members Leigh Bryant Skvarla, Ph.D. and Mary Jo Loughran, Ph.D. and MSCP, student Meredith Deal have accepted a $12,500 grant from the NCAA to develop a web-based program to assist coaches as they support the mental health needs of student-athletes.

Chatham University and Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) designed to encourage collaboration between the two institutions. Possibilities included but are not limited to research partnerships; formal exchange programs for faculty and students; shared courses; and combined degrees.

On Wednesday, April 4th, at 7 p.m. in the Welker Room of James Laughlin Music Hall, on Chatham University’s Shadyside campus, the Chatham University MFA in Creative Writing Program will host Dialogues: Writers on Disability and Access in the Literary Community.

On Friday, March 16th, at 7 p.m. in the Welker Room of James Laughlin Music Hall, on Chatham University’s Shadyside campus, the Chatham University MFA in Creative Writing Program proudly launches Issue 15: Displacement of The Fourth River, a journal of nature and place-based writing.

Osamu James Nakagawa, a photographer and professor, will be visiting Chatham for two days in February to share insight with students and the community. He will be giving a lecture at 6:00 p.m. on February 19th in Beckwith Lecture Hall in the Buhl Hall of Science and Science Laboratory Building at Chatham University.  The lecture is open to the Chatham community and to the general public.

Chatham University School of Health Sciences has joined the Global Consortium on Climate and Health Education (GCCHE), an international forum for health professions schools and programs committed to sharing best scientific and educational practices and designing model curricula on the health impacts of climate change.

Observers around the country have noted an uptick in the number of women running for political office, and some areas of Pennsylvania appear to be no exception to this trend with recent data collected by the Pennsylvania Center for Women and Politics (PCWP) at Chatham University indicating that women ran for and won more Southeast Pennsylvania municipal offices in 2017 than in 2015.

Chatham University is pleased to announce the Dean’s List for the fall 2017 term. To be eligible for Dean’s List, students must carry a GPA of at least 3.5 and complete a minimum of 12 credits for a letter grade. The full list is available here.

Scientists have long recognized that road salts can contribute to chemical changes in rivers and streams. But research by Chatham University assistant professor of water resources Ryan Utz, Ph.D. and his colleagues has determined that long-term salinization is occurring throughout most of North America and may be linked to chemical changes beyond salts, including chemicals that lead water to become more alkaline.
