Author, Margot Livesey, Visits Chatham as 2017 Melanie Brown Lecturer

On Wednesday, September 20, at 8 p.m. in the Welker Room of James Laughlin Music Hall, on Chatham University’s Shadyside campus, the Chatham University MFA in Creative Writing Program will welcome Margot Livesey as the Melanie Brown Lecturer. Melanie and Fred R. Brown established the Melanie Brown Lecture Series in 2008 to support a two-day campus visit by an established author whose fiction writing is guided by a strong sense of place.

Campus Message from President Finegold

Yesterday an article was published on PublicSource.org by a recent Chatham graduate and Public Source intern that focused on self-injury policies and procedures at Chatham and other universities. Due to the nature of the article, which involved three former Chatham students (whose names were changed for the article), Chatham chose not to comment in specifics in order to respect and comply with privacy requirements for these and other students at Chatham. After reviewing the article, the University believes that it contains information that has been taken out-of-context and mischaracterizes the environment at Chatham.

President Finegold's Statement on Immigration Executive Order

On Friday, the Trump administration signed an executive order on immigration that (among other things) suspended the entry of citizens from seven countries—Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen—to the United States for at least the next 90 days.  Over the weekend, the effects of this order were immediately felt with individuals and families being prevented from boarding flights, denied entry at airports, and stranded abroad.

President Finegold Statement on Support for DACA Students

At the end of the fall semester, I received a letter signed by 76 members of our Chatham faculty & staff community, in support of an earlier student march, asking Chatham’s Board of Trustees to explore and consider designating Chatham a Sanctuary Campus.  Since these requests were received, the President’s Cabinet has been researching and discussing this issue with the intention to present our findings for consideration by the Board of Trustees at its February Board meeting.
