Quantum Theatre to stage outdoor production at Chatham University summer of 2025
A theatrical workshop and reading also to be held on the campus in March
The iconic Mellon Pond at Chatham University will be a set piece in a Quantum Theatre adaptation of Anton Chekhov's classic play The Seagull this summer. The show will open on July 24 and go on until August 17. Tickets go on sale in May.
“I’ve been waiting 30 years to come back to Chatham’s beautiful campus with a project,” said Karla Boos, founder and artistic director of Quantum Theatre; a 1994 production of Polygraph at Chatham helped put Quantum on the map. “But I couldn’t have imagined a partnership as appropriate and beautifully set as this adaptation of Chekhov’s Seagull by the pond and with Mellon Center as the backdrop.”
In addition to the summer production, members of Quantum Theatre will be on campus March 10-14 to workshop their staging of The Seagull, which is set to be performed right in front of the pond near Mellon Center on Shadyside Campus. Chatham students are invited to sign up for internships in production and administration to help build sets, props, and costumes, or to work on marketing, house management, and other administrative areas.
The workshop culminates on March 15 with a reading of select scenes from the play at the Eddy Theater. This reading is open to the public and free tickets are available here.
The play is adapted and directed by Joanie Schultz, the associate artistic director at the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park. More information at www.quantumtheatre.com.
