Demonstrating a capacity for leadership isn’t just for job and grad school applications (though it certainly helps)— being a leader expands your capacity for compassion, problem-solving, and self-confidence. A great place to start building leadership skills is with a student leadership position right on campus. Want to see if these positions are right for you? What are student leadership positions?

Student leadership positions include Resident Assistants (RA’s), Orientation Leaders (OL’s), and Chatham Activities Board (CAB) Coordinators.


Resident Assistants (RA’s):

What do they do?

  • Live with students in a residence hall

  • Serve as a resource to students in need

  • Assist with supporting student concerns & providing resources

  • Support community development in the halls

  • Serve as a role model & a mentor

What do they make?

Compensation includes single room and book scholarship for each semester.

  • 1st Year: $150 per term

  • 2nd Year: $270 per term

  • 3rd & 4th Years: $770 per term

Orientation Leaders (OL’s):

What do they do?

  • Welcome our new students to Chatham during orientation

  • Create an inclusive environment for all students

  • Assist our new students with meeting other students, experiencing events, and becoming acclimated to campus

  • Lead a group of 15-20 first year students throughout Orientation

What do they make?

  • $500 applied to your student account for OL training and Orientation Week

  • An additional $100 for fall term requirements

  • Aquarius— Values creating an inclusive space for the next generation of Cougars

  • Coordinate and plan weekend and late night activities for the campus community

  • Complete about 10 office hours per week during the academic year

  • Recruit general members to serve on the CAB Committee

  • Create a vibrant campus life experience through innovative ideas and programming

  • $1,200 per term stipend
