Spooky Season: What’s Ghouling on at ChathamU?
It’s no secret, Chatham University has a frighteningly fun reputation as one of the spookiest universities in Pittsburgh. From our historic mansions-turned-residence-halls to our 150+ years as an institution, there’s a lot of macabre material to work with! Whether you’re gung-ho for ghosts or prefer your Halloween more happening and less haunted, we’ve got tons of activities planned for you this spooky season. Check them out below!
Creepy Campus Activities:
Sunday October 16 @ 7pm | Discover Pittsburgh: Haunted Ghost Tours
In the Halloween Spirit? Join Student Engagement for a spine-tingling ghost tour. The tour will cover several haunted sites throughout Pittsburgh including locations on the North and South side. The event is at no cost to Chatham students. Register on MyChatham by October 12th to attend. Limited spots are available. Transportation is provided. Shuttle departs at 7:00 pm from the AFC Patio. Tour starts at 7:30 pm.
Monday October 17 @ 12-2pm | Marvelous Mondays: Pumpkin Decorating
Join Student Engagement to decorate pumpkins. Whether you want to carve a jack-o'-lantern or personalize it with paint, we will have all the makings for this fun, autumnal craft available at our table. Don't have time to decorate your pumpkin? Stop and grab some apple cider or a pumpkin cookie.
Wednesday October 19 @ 7-9pm | Pumpkin Painting
Join the Education Club in the Carriage House main lounge for a night of pumpkin painting and fall-themed snacks!
Monday October 24 @ 12-2pm | Marvelous Mondays: Halloween Scavenger Hunt
Search the quad from 12-2pm for a Halloween-themed duck. If you find a duck, bring it back to the Carriage House to exchange for a prize.
Wednesday October 26 @ 4:30-5:30pm | Scare the Stress Away
Create your own little monster bookmark to keep watch over your spot in all your current reads! Decorate your monster to be as cute or vicious as you want. Prompt inspired by My Favorite Thing is Monsters by Emil Ferris. JKM Library, room 103

Wednesday October 26 @ 4-5pm | Dean’s Hour: Halloween DIY Kits
Join Chris Purcell, Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students, at the Carriage House for DIY Halloween kits!
Thursday October 27 @ 6:30-8:30pm | MABS Charity Halloween Bingo Night
The Master of Arts in Biomedical Studies (MABS) Charity Group is hosting a Halloween-themed bingo night in the Mellon Board Room. Enjoy music, treats, and chances to win fabulous prizes. There will also be a costume contest! All of the proceeds will go to the Red Cross to help those affected by hurricane Ian.
Friday October 28 @ 4:30-11pm | Kennywood Fright Nights
Grab the shuttle and join Student Engagement for a fun afternoon and spooky night at Kennywood amusement park! Discounted tickets are on sale for $5, cash only, in the Office of Student Affairs in Woodland from 9:00 am - 2:30 pm, Tuesday - Friday. The tickets can be used on any date Kennywood is open during the month of October. The Office of Student Engagement has coordinated a shuttle for Friday, October 28th. If you would like a spot on the shuttle, register by October 26th. Limited spots available.
Saturday October 29 @ 8-11pm | Costume Party
The Exercise Science Club will throw a costume party dance in the Welker Room of the Laughlin Music Hall. All students are welcome. You can dress up in a costume or come as you are. There will be music and food.
Monday, October 31 @ 12-2pm | Marvelous Mondays: Tarot or Treat
Embrace the Halloween spirit with tarot card readings and treat bags at the Carriage House Patio! Judi will be doing readings from 12:00-2:00 PM. While you are waiting, pick up one of our trick-or-treat bags—no tricks, only sweet treats.
Monday October 31 @ 5:00-7pm | Halloween Dinner Featuring Mocktails
Join the Chatham Activities Board for a special Halloween themed dinner in Anderson on Halloween Night! This should be a night of tasty treats and spook eats. Halloween Dinner is a Chatham tradition in conjunction with Mocktails. Dinner will be served by Parkhurst (meal plans, Cougar dollars, cash, credit /debit). Dress up in your Halloween best, if you desire! All Chatham students are welcome to attend this dinner using a meal swipe. The Office of Student Engagement will sponsor 50 meals for this event. We encourage students who are not in need of a meal swipe to save the sponsored meals for those who are in need. Please complete the form here if you need one of the sponsored meals.
We encourage student organizations to sign up by October 17th to participate in our annual Mocktails competition by creating a mocktail to be tasted by your peers and partygoers, and then vote for your favorite concoction. First place prize: $100; second place prize: $75; third place prize: $50. All prize money will go to the winning student organization’s budget.
