7 Things You Can Do Once You Deposit

Calling all accepted students—tis the season to submit your deposit to Chatham and begin the countdown to college! In anticipation for your pre-college summer and your first semester of college this fall, we’re counting down some of the undeniable advantages you’ll receive once you are officially a Chatham student. Check them out below—

Let the Feed Know 🤩

You deserve your star moment! Once you deposit, let your social feeds know that you are officially a Chatham Cougar—extra points if you manage to flaunt some Chatham gear in the process. Be sure to tag us on social (@chathamu on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook and @chathamuadmissions on Instagram) so we can shout it out to our followers!

Gain Access to Student ID Perks and Advantages 🚍

Did you know that with your Chatham student ID you gain access to free Port Authority transportation throughout the city of Pittsburgh? That means you can take the city buses and our T system anywhere in the city for free! You’ll also gain access to student perks and discounts, including free admission to the Carnegie Museum of Art and Natural History, discounted tickets to the Mattress Factory, and even discounts on sporting events. Not to mention, a .edu email address will afford you discounts to select news outlets and music streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify.

Meet Your Roommate and Secure Your Housing 👭

Once you make your tuition deposit, you are able to complete your housing application, make your housing deposit, and find your roommate(s). If you’re curious about how that process works, check out our complete guide here. Living away from home, managing your own schedule, and adapting to living with new people are some of the most challenging and enriching aspects of college. The sooner you get started, the more time you have to prepare for the major life change that is ahead.

Register for Your Fall Classes 📚

The next step after depositing is working with your advisor to register for your fall semester classes. Whether or not you’ve already decided on your major will determine the direction your schedule takes. If your major is decided, there will be designated intro-level classes that you take during your first semester. But, there will also be room for general education courses in everything from sustainability to women and gender studies. If you haven’t declared your major yet, your first semester is a great opportunity to check off general education requirements and explore some areas of academic interest. Once you register for classes, you’ll also gain access to crucial info like your course materials and class locations.

Begin Planning Your College Move 🧳

Moving to a new home means decorating and stocking up on living essentials. Though Chatham provides dorm room necessities like a laptop, bed, desk, closet, and dresser, you may also want to bring items like a television, hamper, mini-fridge, fan, desk lamp, and/or storage containers. Your dorm is also an opportunity for you to express yourself and make sure that you feel at home—bring art, linens, and décor that help you feel cozy, creative, and like you’re living your best life.

Gain Access to Your Chatham E-mail Account 👨🏾‍💻

Depositing will give you full access to MyChatham and your Outlook email account. Once you have a Chatham email address, you’ll be able to start receiving campus wide emails about events, initiatives, and goings-on around campus. Your Chatham email is where you’ll start receiving need-to-know info from your professors, Student Affairs, and Residence Life. It’s the first in a series of steps that will help solidify your connection to the Chatham community.

Enjoy a (Relatively) Stress-Free Summer ☀️

Now that the major decisions are out of the way, you can spend the rest of your summer enjoying time with your high school friends, doing your favorite activities with family, and making the most of your last few weeks before your whole life changes. We recommend lots of rest, outdoor fun, reading, and self-care. Now is the perfect time to prioritize taking care of you and to prepare yourself for what you want out of college.

We invite you to submit your deposit today! If you have questions or concerns, we encourage you to contact the Office of Admissions at undergraduate@chatham.edu or the Office of Financial Aid at financialaid@chatham.edu.
