Last-Minute Move-in Questions, Answered!

We are… beyond excited for New Student Move-In Day tomorrow, and hope you are too! Because this is such a hectic time, we opened up a Q&A on our Instagram Story for last-minute move-in questions. We answered them on Instagram, but we’ve also compiled a list of questions we received, organized by category, with helpful links when applicable, so that your back-to-school transition can go as smoothly as possible. We can’t wait to see you, new Cougs!

Moving In:

Q: Are we being assigned a specific move-in time or are we to come within a time frame?

  • You were assigned a specific move-in time from Residence Life. Please check your Chatham email or contact ResLife@chatham.edu.

Q: Will there be people to help us move our stuff to our rooms?

Q: How many people in my family can come help with move-in?

  • There is no strict limit for number of people, but students and their families may only bring one car for move-in. We ask that students limit the number of people as much as possible, as our Cougar Carriers will help you unload your car and take items up to your room.

Q: The weather forecast tomorrow is not looking good. How will this affect move-in?

  • Move-in will proceed as usual in rain, but pause for thunder and lightning if the weather were to be that severe. Updates would be provided accordingly, so make sure to check your Chatham email frequently!

Mailboxes, Etc:

Q: Can/do/how can first year residents get a PO box ???

  • During downtime during Orientation, visit the Post Office in the Mellon Center to get your Student Mail Box number set up. Operating hours for the Post Office are Monday thru Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, and you can contact them via email at postoffice@chatham.edu or phone: 412-365-1270.

Q: How does your mailing system work for letters?

  • Students should visit the Post Office in the Mellon Center to get your Student Mail Box number set up and ask any mail-related questions there. Operating hours for the Post Office are Monday thru Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, and you can contact them via email at postoffice@chatham.edu or phone: 412-365-1270.

Q: Is there a way to find our mailing address living on campus?

  • During downtime during Orientation, visit the Post Office in the Mellon Center to get your Student Mail Box number set up. They’ll be happy to answer any question you have about ChathamU mail there. Operating hours for the Post Office are Monday thru Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, and you can contact them via email at postoffice@chatham.edu or phone: 412-365-1270.

Residence Hall Life:

Q: Where are the laundry rooms at Chatham?

  • Laundry facilities differ by residence hall building. Your RA can direct you to your laundry room at your floor meeting Wednesday night.

Q: What are RA’s allowed to do at Chatham? I know it differs for each school!

  • The primary role of an RA is to be a resource to the students in their residence hall, and to keep residents safe by ensuring students follow Chatham University’s Honor Code

Q: How much closet/dresser space does the room come with?

Miscellaneous:

Q: Where is the quad?

  • The quad is the central green space on Shadyside campus, between the academic buildings of Braun/Falk/Coolidge, the Library, and Woodland Hall.

Q: Will Chatham have ice cream in Anderson this year?

(Some context here: Chatham’s Anderson Dining Hall features a self-serve ice cream station, which became unavailable due to COVID-19 precautions.)

  • Not right away, but we’re hoping sometime this fall!

Q: Is it too late to request a student ID?

  • It is not too late to request your ID. Please do so and we will try to print it ASAP. The priority deadline was to guarantee it would be ready at move-in. You will receive an email when your ID has been printed, so check your Chatham email frequently.

Q: Do we need to be emailed before picking up computers at the make-up distribution?

  • Nope! The IT help desk is ready to distribute laptops, just head on over. (Sustainability laptops aren’t quite ready yet, but should be soon).
