International Day of Happiness with the Office of Marketing and Communications

March 20th marks International Day of Happiness, a day dedicated to promoting the happiness and well-being of all people. We’re celebrating here at Pulse@ChathamU with all the things that make us happy here in the Office of Marketing and Communications. Meet our friendly faces and a bit about our sources of joy below!

Although they live in other states, my six nieces are a source of happiness in my life. Four are teenagers, so we text about everything from BLM to Machine Gun Kelly, while the other two are 6 and 4, so my sister sends me videos and photos that always make me smile or laugh out loud.

I have two main sources of happiness that help me get through this pandemic. The first one is leaning into community. While I am an introvert, I have been finding ways to connect to people. It charges me up when I am feeling low. That looks like Facetiming my younger brother, meeting a friend at the museum, or affirming people in the Zoom chat in my classes. My other source of happiness is reading. I love, love, love a great book! After writing an article about Valentine’s and Anti Valentine’s reads I decided to have a date with a book for that weekend and I have been free reading ever since.

My nieces, Alanna and Tessa make me happy! They’re 12 and 8 and don’t know the meaning of small talk.

If I'm creating, innovating, or inventing, I'm as happy as can be! You can never go wrong with channeling your creative energy.

Since the pandemic, going on outdoor adventures has been a huge source of happiness in my life! I love going on long hikes along the many trails and tributaries of Pennsylvania or even hilly afterwork walks through my neighborhood—my new puppy, Sunny adds an extra challenge to our walks.

I love to read, cook, and host holiday dinners and get-togethers. My joy in life comes from my family. My husband and I are blessed that our kids and grandkids are here in the Pittsburgh area, so we get to spend time with them often!

Abigail Kneuss ‘23, Copywriter

Nothing brings me more joy than spending time with my family and friends outdoors! Whether we’re gardening, rollerskating, hammocking, hiking or just talking, I’m sure to have a good time.

Emelia Zandier ‘21, Event Photographer

(she/her)

I have many sources of happiness in my life including family, friends, my camp, and traveling. Overall though, my greatest source of happiness come from time spent with my sisters and grandparents.

Sarah Hamm, MFACW '13, Associate Director, Brand and Content Strategy

(she/her)

In a time when there’s a lot of big unhappiness in the world, I try to add balance by focusing on the small things that make life delightful. So when I see a cardinal at my window, or the light hits the steam on my coffee just right, I try to really absorb those moments, take note, and recognize them as the gifts they are. Gratitude, even if on the smallest scale, hones your ability to recognize happiness. Honorable mention: my dog, who reminds me to get outside every day.

Lilly Kubit ‘23, Event Photographer

A source of happiness for me is mindfulness. When I really focus on the world around me I almost see it through a camera lens. When I’m mindful life turns into so many cinematic scenes and I feel like I’m in a movie... what’s not to like about that!

Sara-Jayne Poletti, Web Content Manager

(she/her/they)

Reading books, cooking complicated meals, filling my home with houseplants, and hanging out with my dog Bucket (aka Bucky) make me happy.

Happy happy day Cougars! We hope you find the time to do something today that brings you joy ☀️.
