Chatham Athletics expands with addition of Women’s Flag Football and Competitive Cheer Teams
Chatham University Athletics has announced the addition of two new athletics programs: women's flag football, which will begin playing exhibition games in the spring of 2025, and competitive cheer, which will start in the fall of 2025.
Backed by the NFL, women's flag football is one of the fastest-growing sports across the country with at least 12 states sanctioning it for high school play. The non-contact sport has grown in popularity due to its safe and inclusive nature. In 2028, the sport will be included in the Los Angeles Olympics.
Chatham’s new Competitive Cheer team will be a co-ed sport and will compete in the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA). In addition, Chatham will continue the Cheerleading club to cheer on the Cougars at volleyball and basketball games. The addition of competitive cheer will bring the number of intercollegiate sports at Chatham to 23.
