Chatham again recognized as a top performer on AASHE’s 2021 Sustainable Campus Index

Chatham has once again been recognized by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) as a top performer across a number of categories on the 2021 Sustainable Campus Index.

This year, Chatham ranked in a tie at #1 for the Grounds category due to the sustainable landscaping and biodiversity of the campus. The University also ranked at #3 for the Buildings category, #5 for Investment and Finance, and was placed at #6 in a tie for the Water category.

Each category is considered an “impact area” and highlights how the school is making sustainable choices in that area. The Buildings category covers the environmental impact of existing and new buildings on the campus, the Investment and Finance category highlights the sustainable investments made by the school, and the Water category focuses on water use reduction and rainwater management.

The Sustainable Campus Index recognizes the best sustainable colleges and universities overall and in 17 impact categories. AASHE uses the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) to measure each of the schools included in the report.
