Chatham hosts art installation centered on opioid addiction and its impact on individuals

Chatham will open the art exhibition Love, Loss, and Addiction by alumna Sarah Jewels-Plesset ’20, in the Susan Bergman Gurrentz ’56 Art Gallery on Chatham’s Shadyside campus on October 18. The exhibit will feature large photorealistic oil paintings that depict the difficult experience of addiction and will also illustrate understanding and support to those who have lost someone to addiction.

The opening is free and open to the public beginning on October 18th and will run until November 5th. A reception will be held to celebrate the gallery opening on October 23rd from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., and refreshments will be provided.

Sarah Jewels-Plesset is a photorealist painter who received her BA in Visual Arts from Chatham University in 2020. Before this, she attended Carnegie Mellon University’s Pre-College Program where she studied with acclaimed artist Lee Price. She aims to capture the moment between expressions in people. She believes accessing these fleeting moments will connect her more to her own experiences.

For any questions concerning the event, please contact Melody Harris at m.harris@chatham.edu or 412-365-1202.
