Heinz Endowment grant helps Chatham support Autism Spectrum training

Chatham University has received a generous grant from The Heinz Endowments to better support students that fall on the Autism Spectrum. The funding from the grant will go towards a training program led by Brian Kluchurosky, Director of Youth Advocate Programs, Allegheny County Adults with Autism Program, on working with students who have been identified as autistic.

The program will be held in the fall for faculty and staff and will include,

  • Debunking the Autism Stigma

  • Understanding the Autism Spectrum

  • Practical engagement by understanding the processing system of the Autism Spectrum

  • Providing critical feedback for students on the Autism Spectrum

  • Proactive measures for engagement with co-workers on the Autism Spectrum

This program will be offered through the Office of Academic & Accessibility Resources (OAAR) and will continue Chatham’s dedication to providing all students with the opportunity to succeed.

The Heinz Endowments is devoted to the mission of helping southwestern Pennsylvania prosper as a vibrant center of creativity, learning, and social, economic and environmental sustainability.  Core to its work is the vision of a just community where all are included and where everyone who calls our region home has a real and meaningful opportunity to thrive.
