Conversations & Connections Writer’s Conference to be Held at Chatham University

PITTSBURGHBarrelhouse is excited to announce the Conversations & Connections Writer’s Conference will be held Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Chatham University’s Shadyside Campus. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. and programming ends at 4:30 p.m., with a reception to follow.

The conference will welcome featured writers Hanif Willis-Abdurraqib, Geeta Kothari, Michelle Junot, and Robert Yune, and will feature more than twenty small presses and literary magazines and fifty editors and panelists. Conversations & Connections will also feature expert panels writing and publishing, including writing while parenting, time management, beginning short stories, and many other topics.

In addition to panel access, attendees will receive one of four books (from the featured authors), and a subscription to a participating literary magazine with registration. With their registration, participants also get one ticket to “Speed Dating with Editors,” a ten-minute one-on-one session during which they will receive immediate feedback from an editor on a poem, very short fiction or essay, or the beginning of a longer prose piece. Frequent editorial participant and American Short Fiction Editor Nate Brown said of last year’s conference, “Honestly I haven’t been to a better, smarter, nicer conference.”
